A theatrical and architectural work of art, the Garnier Palace was built in the 19th century by Charles Garnier under the aegis of Baron Haussmann. Commissioned by Napoleon III, it was part of the major works intended to modernize the capital city.

The palace was the residence of the Paris Opera until 1989, when the Bastille Opera House was built. The Paris Opera Palais Garnier is now mainly used for ballet.

There is no particular dress code. However, we do request that you dress suitably. On gala evenings, a dark suit is suggested for gentlemen and a dress for ladies.

The stage curtain was created by the theater painters-decorators Auguste Rubé (1817-1899) and Philippe Chaperon (1823-1906), according to the indications of Charles Garnier. The curtain was replaced in the same way in 1951 then in 1996.
