El nombre original de la ciudad, en 1588, fue de "Ciudad de Vera de las Siete Corrientes", al que, un siglo después, se le agregó San Juan (San Juan Bautista) que fue uno de los santos escogidos por los fundadores para proteger a la ciudad, que finalmente se transformó en el apócope Corrientes.

Dorado, surubí, pacú, sábalo, patí, bagre, etc., se preparan a la parrilla, al horno o empanados. El "mbeyú" o torta frita de almidón de mandioca de los guaraníes que se consume con leche, sal y queso, y el chipá, elaborado con almidón de mandioca, leche , sal y queso también de los guaraníes.

Se extiende 2,5 km a lo largo de la ribera urbana, entre las siete puntas rocosas que dieron el nombre a la ciudad por las fuertes corrientes que se generaban en torno a ellas.

Corrientes, ubicada de cara al río, está bendecida por su naturaleza, cultura, historia y destinos únicos, como así también por su gastronomía, mezcla de ingredientes regionales, como la mandioca, el arroz, los cítricos, la yerba mate, el té y la pureza de sus aguas.6 jul. 2018

La campaña agrícola 2018-2019 en la provincia de Corrientes abarco un total de más de 23 mil hectáreas y 77 productores de los principales cultivos: Trigo (2055 has), Maíz (10989 has), Soja (5190 has), Sorgo (4799 has) (Cuadro 1).

Corrientes es la segunda provincia de la Argentina con mayor superficie destinada a la horticultura bajo cubierta con aproximadamente una superficie de 1.800 hectáreas y 1.120 productores. Se destaca a nivel nacional por tener producción primicia de pimiento y de contra estación de tomate.17 jul. 2018

Before the arrival of the Spanish conquest, the Kaingang, Charrua and Guaraní lived in a big area that also covered most of the current province of Corrientes.
